Space Planning Utilization
The Office of Space Planning Utilization is charged with providing space solutions that optimizes resources effectively and support the University in achieving excellence in teaching, research and service.
Who We Are:

What We Do:
- Implement space studies in support of the capital development plan.
- Research and critically evaluate space needs by actively engaging departments and various units.
- Assess and apply best practices for space use in higher education.
- Conduct space studies, analyses, assessment and planning services.
- Conduct benchmarking studies to improve utilization.
- Manage and establish space guidelines, policies and allocation standards.
- Manage swing space planning needs to support major and minor construction.
- Provide options and solutions to a department or business unit when space needs cannot be accommodated within existing space holdings.
- Oversee the University’s request for space change process.
- Review and approve major lease proposals.
Management of Space Data:
The Office of Space Planning Utilization is accountable for providing accurate space data, maintaining and analyzing space assets, and provide accurate and timely space inventory and utilization reports that will assist in planning for existing and future space needs for the University.
Maintaining and Validating Data:
- Provide real time data collected from Request for Space Change Form.
- Provide annual space analyses and utilization reports.
- Provide transparency in space decisions and accurate data regarding changes in space allocation.
- Provide facility condition assessments.
Request for Space Change:
A Request for Space Change is required when one or more of the following is needed at any EKU facility:
- Moving within or to another facility
- Temporary room or space use
- Storage space outside of the department or facility
